Drawing on examples from literature and cinema, from linguistics to music therapy, and concentrating in the second part on contemporary artistic practices, this book proposes a paradigm shift that places the world of sound – with the act of listening as its cornerstone – at the forefront, from a feminine and feminist standpoint. Its pages are as suited to school and university classrooms as they are to domestic violence shelters, to women of all ages, and as applicable to the privacy of one’s own home as they are to the workplace.

Usciamo dal rumore di fondo. Facciamo sentire le nostre voci e facciamoci ascoltare. Siamo quelle che sussurrano, quelle che cantano le ninnananne. Siamo le sirene e le sibille.
